An in depth overview
The name of the event was inspired by the fall of the Berlin Wall on the 9th of November 1989. Every year, on the anniversary of the Fall of the Wall the Falling Walls Conference takes place and top-class innovators from around the world are answering the question: “Which are the next walls to fall?” Among the speakers are Nobel laureates, artists, and heads of state.
Falling Walls Labs take place globally throughout the year. The winner of each international Falling Walls Lab qualifies for the Falling Walls Lab Finale in Berlin, which is held every year on 8 November and is closely connected to the annual and internationally renowned Falling Walls Conference.
This year the Dutch semi-final is held by the University of Groningen Honours Programme which gives you the unique possibility to pitch your idea in front of an interdisciplinary jury. Due to the current circumstances, the event will be held in a virtual environment. At the end of the event you will have the possibility to get involved in exciting discussions and network with fellow innovators and experts from different disciplines.
The winner of the Groningen Lab gets to travel to Berlin and compete in the Falling Walls Lab Finale. The winners of the Finale get to speak once more on the grand stage of the Falling Walls Conference and receive a cash prize. Travel and accommodation expenses from 8-9 November together with a ticket for the Falling Walls Conference are covered for you.
